I have just received a rejection E-mail. This is my first ever rejection (It is the first piece I have tried to get published). On the bright side, from what I am to believe, you have to get several rejections before you get published. So, this just means I am one more step closer to getting published.

Ni, I have lots of rejections. Keep at it.
Check this out:
A copy of a rejection letter my agent received for the first book of mine she handled. Because I am a very kind person, I have omitted the name of the Editor and his publishing house. This is included to cheer up anybody who just got a rejection letter. Hang in there!
Dear Miss Kidd,
Ursula K. Le Guin writes extremely well, but I'm sorry to have to say that on the basis of that one highly distinguishing quality alone I cannot make you an offer for the novel. The book is so endlessly complicated by details of reference and information, the interim legends become so much of a nuisance despite their relevance, that the very action of the story seems to be to become hopelessly bogged down and the book, eventually, unreadable. The whole is so dry and airless, so lacking in pace, that whatever drama and excitement the novel might have had is entirely dissipated by what does seem, a great deal of the time, to be extraneous material. My thanks nonetheless for having thought of us. The manuscript of The Left Hand of Darkness is returned herewith. Yours sincerely,
The Editor
She later sells millions of this title and wins just about every award you can imagine for the book. I think this is a great example. |

It may sound weird, but congratulations!
As you submit more work and get closer to the right market you'll start to get personalized rejections so you have another person's opinion of what could be improved in your work.
Don't be afraid to keep trying. Someone will say yes.

Indeed; there's nothing worse than the photocopied form letter with your name printed in high-school script by some summer-receptionist.
At least they put time into studying your work--and outlined the reasons why they did not accept it.
That's very useful. _________________ Some people say that writing Fantasy is escapism. Sure. But real life never really escapes. No matter how odd my worlds are, my life experiences inexorably end up woven into them. That's like escaping, yes, but with a cellmate chained to your leg. |

Thanks for all your comments. I will keep troopering on. I don’t think any amount of rejections could damage my spirit. I keep writing for me and my love of doing it.
