Tim Newman on Getting Published
May 1, 2007
I sent out the first chapter of my novel
Yesterday's Falcon to the agents who listed fiction and fantasy as an interest and was fortunate in getting back a number of positive replies. Bob Mecoy of Creative Book Services in New York was the first to read the entire manuscript and offered me a contract.
I happily signed on the dotted line. Actually, he later told me that the night he read the novel he was at a cabin in the Catskills with his young daughter. He had four manuscripts to go over that weekend and when he put her to bed she asked him to read to her. By the bedside lay the book she had brought along…a children’s edition of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. My manuscript went to the top of the list. Life is good.
The rest of the story is also one of coincidence and good fortune, not the least of which was Bob suggesting I enter some writing contests. I was a finalist for Dragon Books and offered an E book-contract (no thank you). Later I won at Brighid’s Fire Books. Dawn Rivers Baker, president and CEO of Wahmpreneur Publishing offered me a contract which I happily accepted.
About Tim Newman
Tim Newman was born and educated in England. At the age of 19, he immigrated to Canada in search of riches and adventure. Falling woefully short on the first, he ventured south to Mexico and then on to Argentina where he taught English in Buenos Aries. Later years saw him travel to Vancouver where he attended Simon Fraser University. After marriage and two children, the desire to write grew into a passion. One winter s night the muse clamored too loudly and he sat down by the fire pencil in hand and began
Yesterday s Falcon. That summer he left for England where he walked the trails, hiked to the castles and stood in the rich clover fields where Gawain fought his battles.
