The local fire and rescue squad brought the young woman to the clinic the night before. Apparently she was involved in a fire and now, here she lay, going through pain as old as man itself; she was having a baby. Wanda looked at the woman’s scratches and scrapes, and then back at the chart. She leaned over and listened to the patient's shallow breath. With an inner dread Wanda stood, and cupped her hands next to her heart while looking down at the young woman. Looking again at the chart, Wanda read the hand-printed inscription on chart to herself aloud. “No ID”, NAME: Jane Doe.
